Assessing Barriers and Needs for New York Middle School Teachers Adopting Asian American Curriculum: A Committee of 100 Next Generation Leaders Service Project
In the United States, we see growing legislative movements and community interests to ensure that AAPI history is mandated and taught in the K-12 curriculum. While there is an increasing body of AAPI curricular material available for teachers, creating teacher buy-in to teach AAPI studies still needs to be better understood. This Next Generation Leaders (NGL) Project aims to better understand the challenges that impact AAPI curricular adoption and align with the Committee of 100’s “K-12 Asian American and Pacific Islander and Ethnic Studies in the United States,” a state-by-state analysis report. This NGL team created an infographic highlighting essential themes and findings so that they can be readily shared on social media and with teachers, legislators, and educational researchers interested in this collected data. The collected data will also support and inform the Committee of 100’s future educational projects. The presentation highlighted NGL's team processes, findings, and recommendations.
